catch up

I think I am finally caught up! I just got some business cards in today, so I thought I better update the blog. Hopefully I will be a little more regular with my updates from now on. I am really enjoying making cakes on the side for now, but I know that if the Lord opens the door for this to become a little more regular, I would be up for it! It is funny, at the end of August, I had prayed and prayed that the Lord would expand my territory and that I would be able to make some cakes for people...and look what He has given me! Thank you Lord for widening my gates and hearing my prayer for the opportunity to touch others in a special way!

cowboys birthday

Dallas Cowboys hat laying in the grass. Too cute! The entire cake is edible...even the bill. Hat covered in fondant and the grass is buttercream. The bill is made out of a combination of fondant and gumpaste.

eagles cake

I was hosting a baby shower at my house for a friend from church. She is having a baby boy and they are huge Philadelphia Eagles fans so I made the logo for the Eagles. Of all the cakes I have made, this is John's favorite!

pink & brown shower cake

First time using chocolate fondant...man that stuff is so yummy! Bow has pink luster dust...another first. The ladies at the baby shower totally loved it!

OSSAS

Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show in Tulsa October 4-5, 2009.
I had a very busy week this week and I told John I felt like I was on Food Network Cake Challenge for this one..."Contestants, you have 8 hours to complete your cake!" Anyway, I took my inspiration from Kayla's teapot sitting next to the cake. I had fun and I learned a lot for what to expect next year!

John 3:16

Made this cross cake for a friend's son who accepted Christ as his Savior during the Ronnie Hill Crusade at church. This was his favorite verse so we put it on the cake. LOVE this idea!

pink bow!

One of the ladies who attended the Funshops at church liked this cake so much she wanted me to make one for her three year old's birthday! I have figured the bow thing out and really like making the bows!

Georgia Football

This one is for some huge Georgia fans! I used fondant on the helmet and the end zones of the field and then buttercream on the rest. LOVED how the helmet came out!

First sale

MY FIRST SALE!
Oh My Goodness! I was so excited to make this for little Addison. The cake was made to match the invitation and I had so much fun making the ladybug. I think this is when i realized I could really get into this "cake business!"

simplicity

White fluffy cake with fluffy chocolate icing...YUM-O! I had some royal flowers so I threw them on top. We took this to a friends house for dinner.

FUNSHOPS

I taught a class on cake decorating at church for our annual "Funshops." These two were so much fun to make with all the ladies watching and taking notes...surprisingly I was not nervous at all. The Lord was so gracious this night to give me peace and let everything go smoothly...

basket weave

Made this one for my Course 2 Wilton final cake. Royal icing flowers and my first stab at basket weave. The cake was lemon and oh so good!

sunflower bday cake

This was my birthday cake! It was really yummy an I wanted to keep the center chocolate ball all to myself! The petals are fondant and the base is covered in fondant with some scroll work. I like this one a lot!

triathlon

John was running in a triathlon and I decided to make him a cake. This was my first attempt at a person and I think he turned out pretty cute with his swim cap and goggles! We had some friends over to help us eat it! Kind of an oxymoron to eat cake right before a race I guess.

chocolate!

Triple Chocolate Heaven! This cake was so YUMMY and loaded with caffeine! Just what this stay at home mommy needed! I did not even think about the caffeine and gave Jay a small piece at the cookout. He was up til 11:00 that night! Woohoo!

cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for the church bake sale. These were so much fun and I could hardly keep my kids' paws off them!

Go Tigers!

Forgot that I made this cake for Jay's soccer awards night. Go Tigers!

cubbies

I made these for our Cubbies Awards night. One for Jay's class and one for the class I taught. The kids LOVED them! Just the thought of eating Cubbie was funny to them!

my boys' birthday cakes

Jay and Logan's birthdays are just 6 days apart. The ducks are Logan's first birthday cake and the pirate ship is for Jay's fifth birthday. Both of these cakes had me up late, but worth every minute!

class cakes

These were two of the cakes I made for my Wilton Cake decorating class. So much fun! I signed up for course 2 this afternoon...baskets and flowers are next woohoo!
We used the rainbow cake to celebrate grandma's birthday "via satellite." The kids enjoyed singing Happy Birthday in the early morning and had a piece of cake after their breakfast...they were so glad for grandma's day!

Rockies Rock

This was the cake I made for Jay's t-ball banquet. It has little jerseys with all of the players names on them around the sides and a the baseball cap is half of a ball pan covered in fondant. All the kids were excited to get to eat their name. This was my first cake covered in fondant. I made John come home early from work to drive me to the banquet to make sure the hat didn't roll of the top of the cake. It was a huge hit!

baby shower

Ruth's baby shower cake...my first stab at fondant and a tiered cake. This is what got me hooked on cake decorating!

kayla's birthday

This was my first cake. I made it for Kayla's 3rd birthday party...an arts and crafts party. The kids had the best time!
